Shopify has added a location capability to its agent shopping standard, UCP (version 2026-08-25). If your store sells in person and has at least one retail location set up as a Physical storefront, your store's agent profile will now list two new location abilities. Agents that support them can find your physical stores, narrow the results by name, city or distance from a buyer, and check which stores carry the items a buyer wants.
This is optional. If you don't use locations today, you won't need to change anything, and stores without a retail location don't advertise these abilities at all.
What a shopper's agent can now do
When an agent asks for your locations, it gets back each store's name, address and map coordinates, if you have set them. Results come in pages of 10 by default. An agent can also check a list of specific stores by ID, up to 10 at a time, and match a basket of products against each store.
A store only counts as a match when every item in the basket is available there. This follows Shopify's existing store availability rules. It is not a stock count, a pickup promise or a reservation, so the shopper still has to confirm in the cart and at checkout.
What to check this week
- Make sure each physical store has an accurate name, address and map location, since that is what agents will show.
- Confirm that products you sell in store are set as available at the right locations, because availability decides which stores match.
- Know that pickup checkout for a chosen store is not supported yet, and that hours and amenities filters are not available.
If you build or use an agent integration yourself, it needs to declare these two abilities at version 2026-08-25 and only call them when your store's profile lists them. Share a buyer's location only when the buyer chooses to share it.
