Translate & Adapt can now auto-sync translations for up to 8 languages

Merchants in the US and Canada can turn on Auto-sync per language so new and updated content is translated weekly. Manual translations are never overwritten, and the auto-translation limit rises from 2 to 8 languages.

Shopify has added automatic translation updates to Translate & Adapt for merchants in the United States and Canada. Until now, when you edited a product description or other store content, you had to go back into the app and translate it again yourself. If you missed that step, your translated storefront could fall behind and shoppers could land on outdated text in their language.

With the new Auto-sync setting, Shopify translates new and updated content for you automatically each week. Auto-sync is off by default and you can switch it on or off for each published language at any time.

The number of languages Shopify can translate for you has also gone up, from 2 to 8. Any language where you use Auto-sync or Translate now counts toward one of your 8 language slots.

What to do this week

  • Open Translate & Adapt and check which languages you have published.
  • Select a language you want to keep current and turn on Auto-sync with the toggle.
  • Use Translate now (formerly the Auto-translate button) when you want a language updated straight away instead of waiting for the next weekly sync.
  • Keep an eye on your language slots, since each language you auto-translate uses one of the 8.

Translations you wrote by hand are never overwritten, so you can review the automatic ones and keep your own wording where it matters most. The Shopify Help Center has more detail on keeping translations up to date.
